Called Conference | MN Student Ministries

As believers we are all “called” to something. Knowing you are called by God can be so simple, yet complicated in understanding what exactly that means for you.

The bi-annual Called Conference, which took place February 17-18 at North Central University, was a time dedicated to equip students to discover and grow in what God is calling them to, even right now. Around 400 people were in attendance. Scott Hagan, President of North Central University, and Katja Zarns, AGWM missionary to Sweden, were the main session speakers. They encouraged students to stay faithful to God’s calling on their lives.

Throughout the conference there were several topical workshops led by local Minnesota leaders and pastors. Josiah Tonder addressed the common question, “How Do I Know I’m Called?” JonCarlos and Gabby Velez shared about being called to the arts and using creative gifts in the church to lead others to Christ.

There were also various panel workshops where students could choose to hear from

leaders who are actively living out the calling God has placed on their lives. They provided practical tips and gave students opportunities to ask questions. Richard Baker, Phil Zarns, and Mark and Heather Sullivan spoke on different aspects of missions, both stateside and overseas. Micah MacDonald, Steve Larson, and Jayson Bronkhorst shared their experiences on starting something new, be it in ministry, a church plant, or a clothing line.

Another aspect of the Called Conference is AIM Trip training. Students and leaders going on these short-term summer missions trips came to prepare as a team. Bobby Loukinen, Home Missionary with Youth Alive, serves as the MN AIM Director and led these sessions.

One student posted on social media that she came to the Called Conference knowing she was called to worship. She left knowing her worth and that she is loved. Not only is she called to worship, but she is also called to help people.

God is moving among our students in Minnesota, and they are eager to step into the calling He has for their lives.
