MDC Pastor’s Kids Retreat | By James Beamond, MDC Communications Specialist

Every September, Minnesota pastors’ kids gather for a wonderful time of connection, fun, and ministry at Pastor’s Kids (PK) Retreat. Led by Minnesota Student Ministries (MSM), PK Retreat is a highlight of the year for many students and leaders. This year’s retreat was no different, as a record number of over 240 PKs gathered at Lake Geneva Christian Center in anticipation of what God would do. Pastor Corey Kalinowski shared challenging messages, accompanied by powerful worship.

At PK retreat, students enjoyed activities including the Legacy Lodge pool, bowling, pizza parties, bingo, and mini golf. Traditions of the retreat like playing Family Feud for a plethora of prizes are also among the most anticipated parts of the weekend.

Another highlight was the involvement of PK alumni, who served in various roles throughout the weekend, including the worship team, counseling, night watch, and preparation.

Even more meaningful was the fellowship that took place within the Worship Center as students engaged with what the Lord was teaching through Pastor Corey’s messages. Sessions began on the first night, with a central theme emerging around God’s grace and the decision to accept it. Pastor Corey asked, “What will you do with what you’ve heard?” Accepting God’s grace is not a one-time choice, but a continual act of choosing to walk in it.

The opportunity to minister to and engage with pastors’ kids throughout the Minnesota District is cherished and will be for years to come. Superintendent Mark Dean wrote, “Each year, our District Officers, Directors, and their families intentionally set aside this weekend because we believe your kids matter.”
