Dave & Angie Jacob | Missionaries in Residence at Trinity Bible College
God called Angie and I to the mission field in our 30’s. Many factors brought us to that point; reading God’s Word, prayer, missionary friends, our pastors, dreams, a vision, and short-term mission trips were powerful influencers in our missionary call.
In 2007, we sold our house in Isanti, MN and shortly after moved our family to Northern Asia, where we did language studies and helped care for orphans. While there, we grew to a family of seven, with four sons and one daughter.
Several years later, there we were, doing the missions work we had dreamed of, and the Lord was starting a new dream in my heart as I washed eggs from the market. I would think about our upcoming itineration and dream about teaching missions and helping to mobilize the next generation of missionaries. I would even search “Intro to Missions syllabus” on Google and read what others were teaching in hopes I could one day do the same. (Don’t judge me; I’m comfortable with my nerdiness!)
At the time, I didn’t have a master’s degree, so I put the thought of teaching and mentoring out of my mind, hoping someday I’d get the opportunity.
That opportunity arrived in 2015 as we began serving a Missionary in Residence term at Trinity Bible College and Graduate School in Ellendale, ND. There I earned my MA in Missional Leadership and am currently a PhD candidate at Asia Pacific Theological Seminary.
Being “on loan” from AGWM for these past few years has allowed us to initiate our GO Trip program where we send all on-campus students around the world every year (pictured above). Two years ago, we launched the Center for Missionary Mobilization & Retention (missionarymobilization.org), a resource center for pastors, missionaries, and mobilizers.
Trinity now offers a Master of Arts Intercultural Studies degree with an optional concentration in missions mobilization. I’ll be teaching a free graduate class this November titled “Trends and Issues in Missions Mobilization”. If interested, email me at .
We’re so grateful for all God is doing here at Trinity. Thank you, Minnesota ministers, for your partnership in ministry!
