Single Moms’ Retreat | Carol Lund, Bridging the Gap Director
Our team was blown away by God’s faithfulness and anointing on the 2019 Single Moms Retreat (SMR), and it could not have been possible without your generosity, support, and prayers.
We were in awe as God brought over 450 single moms to this event. With over 650 attendees, volunteers, and speakers, this was our largest year yet—in size and momentum. Along with deeply spiritual and practical main sessions, breakout sessions, and a hip-hop concert, guests experienced a variety of other caring opportunities.
The Diva Boutique had nearly 9,000 pieces of free, beautiful clothing, SUB Project undergarments, shoes, and accessories for the moms to choose from. These items were donated by Clothes Mentor, Evereve, Hy- Vee, individuals, and churches. Willmar AG provided a spa for attendees that included a foot spa, pedicure, and nail painting. They also donated Color Street applications, paraffin hand wax, and hand massage stations.
Car Care was once again organized by Fast Auto Repair Shop and provided fluid checks, safety checks, and interior vacuuming for 125 vehicles. This team also replaced seven sets of tires, nine pairs of tires, several brakes, rotors, struts, control arms, sway bar links, spark plugs, and ignition coils.
Individuals donated approximately 4,000 books for women to take home for free. Two hundred professional airbrush tattoos were given. Seventy-eight women received a hair cut from licensed, volunteer stylists. There was a Girls Night Out Party with pizza, DJ Bennyk, Zumba, bonfires, a martial arts demo, bingo, and rock climbing. All moms received roses (provided and distributed by Winona State Chi Alpha), journals, pens, water, baked goods, handmade chocolates, lip balm, Zumba, pizza, jewelry, and coffee.
We believe over 200 women made salvation or recommitment decisions, and the altars were filled. About 70% of our audience were first-time event guests, and we continue to hear stories of the blessing this event was to so many. Everything we do continues to be about the one [individual].
Thank you for helping make this event possible and with such excellence! Please save the dates and help promote or support next year’s June 5-6 event. Thank you for your support of the 2019 retreat and for your continued care of single moms.
