Luke & Katie Stavos

When COVID-19 first hit, one of the things Nexus Church did as a community was connect with the other churches in town to help coordinate a response from the churches. At the suggestion of another pastor in town, we created a Facebook page called “Churches of TRF” (TRF being short for Thief River Falls). We’ve used this page to share resources for meals, financial assistance, and even an emergency cell phone people can call to reach a pastor at any time.

On Sunday, May 17th we collaborated with five of those same churches: The Evangelical Free Church, Evangelical Covenant Church, Methodist Church, Converge Baptist Church, and a Word of Faith church, to help host a drive-in service we called “Church in the Lot”. It was held in the large parking lot of a local corporation. We had over 500 people show up!! It was an awesome time to come together and worship “in person” after 8 weeks of strictly online services.

This was something that none of the churches could have really pulled off on their own, but by working together, we were able to make it happen. We were all able to set aside theological differences and combine our resources to reach our community for Jesus in a way that’s never been done here. It was truly amazing to be a part of this historic event.
