Nepal Missions Trip | Angie Goetz
Bridging the Gap (BTG) has partnered financially with Venture for the past three years. This organization addresses the world’s greatest injustices, including human trafficking, refugee crises, and extreme poverty. The crucial mission: providing counselors at the border between Nepal and India. These counselors, with the backing of the Nepali government and border police, work tirelessly to stop up to 1,700 women each month at the border, gently and sensitively assessing whether they might be at risk of falling victim to sex trafficking.
What makes this work so powerful is that the counselors themselves are survivors of sex trafficking. Many of these young women were once deceived by traffickers or, heartbreakingly, even unknowingly sold by their own families. Now, they can offer hope and protection to others facing the same dangers they once endured.
This highly effective faith-based ministry goes beyond initial intervention. It provides a safe haven where survivors receive meals, counseling, skills training, a safe bed, and the love of Jesus. These young women are empowered with the skills needed to earn a livable wage as barbers, tailors, and electricians. In fact, the ministry runs the largest chain of hair salons in Nepal, employing only young women who have been rescued and supported through this initiative.
In November 2024, a small team of female ministry leaders spent an unforgettable week hosted by Venture in Nepal. One evening, the team sat with the girls as they bravely shared their stories or, in some cases, mustered the courage to tell us their names and ages. “Each time a girl said she was 17,” Angie Goetz shared, “My heart ached as I thought of my own 17-year-old daughter back home—safe, warm, and with endless opportunities ahead of her.”
BTG is committed to raising $500,000 to support five mission organizations in 2024-25. As they continue partnering with Venture to rescue and restore the lives of girls caught in the grip of trafficking, they believe this goal is achievable. With the investment of 3,000 women contributing $14 per month, BTG can bring hope and change to thousands.
