North Springs Church | Pastors Ed & Christine Shawa
North Springs Church, in Lino Lakes, MN, stands as a testament to the remarkable faith journey of Pastors Ed and Christine Shawa. Their journey traces back to Zambia, Africa, where their call to ministry first stirred.
Early on, Pastor Ed recalled hesitations about public speaking and prayer. He told his pastor, “I am not a good speaker; I stutter.” Through the mentorship of his pastor, Ed overcame insecurities, marking the beginning of his ministry. Ed and Christine pastored in their hometown for several years and began to feel a call from the Lord to plant a church, which still thrives today.
Deciding to pursue more Bible education, Ed and Christine attended North Central Bible College in 1988. Later, Pastor Mike Smith offered Ed and Christine positions at Redeeming Love Church as associate pastors. While there, Ed and Christine sensed another urge from the Lord to plant a church. This time, a specific call to areas north of the Twin Cities arose. Ed and Christine shared their plans with Pastor Mike, who committed to continually support the Shawas financially and offered to provide people to assist with the church launch.
The acquisition of their current church building reflects faith, perseverance, and divine intervention. Initially encountering financial constraints, they began by renting a school and later a community center for their church services. As time went on, a promising opportunity to purchase their present building emerged. Despite intense financial obstacles that could have derailed their plans, the Shawas knew this was where God wanted them to be. Miraculously, the Lord intervened! A generous financial match donation was offered, contingent on the congregation raising half of the required funds to help obtain a bank loan. With unity and determination, the congregation rallied, contributing lump sums quickly. The match materialized, and the bank approved. To God be the glory!
Beyond Sunday services, North Springs Church thrives as it engages in ministries, including women’s and children’s programs. The church, a place of belonging, hosts weekly fellowship meals, Bible studies, and community outreach.
As North Springs Church grows, the Shawas unwavering faith builds a spiritual home, inspiring stories of grace and transformation. Emphasizing discernment of God’s leading and remaining steadfast, Pastor Ed advises, “When you know God is in something, be sure within yourself. Don’t let yourself be persuaded by others who doubt.”
