Justin and Jessica Evans | AGWM Caribbean missionaries

When Justin Evans felt called to missions as a young adult, he never imagined the journey on which God would lead him. From tragedy and sickness and from Europe to the Caribbean, God’s direction and provision have been active in the Evans’ lives.

Justin first encountered Christ in 1997. As a troubled youth, vandalizing buildings – namely a church- was one of many ways Justin and his friends entertained themselves. Weeks later, however, Justin found himself in that very church, attending a service. He was stunned to learn that the congregation had prayed that the Lord would draw their vandal to Christ. “It worked,” he said. That moment of realization launched him into the ministry. He went to North Central University to study missions, feeling called to raise Christian leaders overseas. It was there that he met his wife, Jessica.

Justin and Jessica served their first term as missionaries in Belgium beginning in 2015. In 2020, they returned to the U.S. to itinerate, but tragedy struck. Justin’s father passed away, and shortly after, Jessica contracted COVID-19. The illness severely impacted her heart and nervous system, leading to years of severe, chronic health challenges. Several Minnesota churches stepped in during that time and cared for the family. “Minnesota was a huge part of helping to see us through,” he said, naming Redeeming Love, Summit, and Real Life churches as being especially impactful.

Jessica began to recover, but the door to return to Belgium unexpectedly closed. God was still leading. In 2023, they were invited to the Dutch Caribbean. Reluctantly, they accepted, and Justin joined the Caribbean School of Theology. He was asked to step in as the school’s president only months later.

Now overseeing 175 students across multiple nations, Justin’s vision includes church-planting initiatives in urban centers, remote villages, and unreached island communities. “We could double enrollment overnight—we just need the personnel,” he said.
Jessica remains active in the ministry, though health challenges remain. Their children also serve locally on the island. Through it all, Justin said, “We still feel called. God wasn’t finished. He was redirecting the mission.”
