A Legacy of Faith | Lake Geneva Christian Center

Ninety-eight years ago, Rev. Frank Lindquist, pastor of Minneapolis Gospel Tabernacle, began pursuing a dream for a central location for Minnesota District business and summer camps. In the fall of 1926, Rev. C.M. Hanson, the first superintendent of the North Central District of the AG, negotiated the purchase of a 13-acre lakeshore property in Alexandria, MN, by the District Council of the Assemblies of God.

Today, the founders could not have imagined the expansive growth their humble beginning would inspire. Their commitment to God’s calling has flourished into Lake Geneva Christian Center, a thriving place that continues to impact lives. Gordon Martin, whose grandparents were part of Lake Geneva’s inception, recalls his childhood camp memories. He has attended every year since he was nine (1945). “I am proud of the sacrifices made by the pastors. Much was volunteer work; they didn’t know what a contractor was back then,” he said.

This summer, the impact of the founders’ vision is more evident than ever, with 1,037 more campers than in 2023, highlighting the camp’s growing appeal and ability to meet diverse needs. From Kids Camp to Youth Camp, Single Moms Retreat to Men’s Conference, and the largest Family Camp ever, this growth reflects the camp’s enduring mission.

More than just numbers, the true measure of success lies in spiritual transformations. Many individuals have experienced transformative moments, finding themselves at altars, responding to calls to become pastors and missionaries, undergoing profound salvations, and being filled with the Holy Spirit. These moments of spiritual awakening are a testament to the camp’s enduring mission and the continued fulfillment of its founders’ vision.

Reflecting on nearly a century of ministry, the growth in attendance, facilities and the countless lives transformed by the Lord are celebrated. The founders’ legacy of faith continues to inspire and drive the mission forward. Gordon noted, “Their hearts were in it. They would be proud of what is going on. They trusted in the Lord, and they believed for the funds to come in, and it did.”
