On November 14-16 100 KidMin pastors and leaders met at Lake Geneva Christian Center (LGCC) for this year’s KidMin Leaders’ Retreat. Our theme was WE ARE FAMILY!
We heard from two heroes of mine and I’m so thankful for their willingness to pour into our KidMin community.
Kelly Presson, National Director of Leadership Development for Children’s Ministry in the Assemblies of God, reminded us that kids ministry needs to be fun, but the thing that will last is teaching kids how to experience and pursue the presence of God. He taught us how to develop character voices and personalities to help make services engaging for kids. Kelly also shared the plan he used for many years to invest in and develop youth leaders within children’s ministries and how to take kids deeper in worship during services.
Scott Berkey, itinerating Missionary Associate to Kenya, spoke during our BGMC Banquet and challenged us to pray for missionaries and obey wherever God leads. Scott emphasized the value of personal relationships with missionaries through giving.
People came from all over the state – as far north as Bemidji, Hibbing, and Duluth and as far south as Winona, Faribault, and Mankato. We also had a special guest from Uganda who was in Minnesota for a conference, found information about the retreat online, and asked to join us! We also grew closer together as friends and colleagues. During free times, we played games, went bowling, and ate really well!
As an added bonus, our MN KidMin section representatives compiled a booklet of “KidMin Best Practices“. Each attendee took home a copy to strengthen their kids ministry.
I am inspired once again by our MN kids’ pastors and leaders. God moved hearts and challenged us to reach kids in our community and across the world with the love of Jesus
In 2020, the retreat will be on November 5-7. Put it on your calendar today and make it a priority to attend next year. WE ARE FAMILY.
