True Life | Pastor Trevor & Angela Janich
Trevor stood near the back of the sanctuary at Fargo First Assembly, half-listening as the late evangelist Steve Hill spoke on leadership.
“There are some people in ministry who shouldn’t be,” Steve said. “But there are some people who are not in ministry, who should be.” As he gestured across the room, his finger pointed directly at Trevor.
Raised in Fargo, ND, Trevor Janich grew up in a Christian home and became increasingly involved in church as his family faced spiritual challenges. By ninth grade, he was serving in children’s ministry, believing that was his calling, until a kids’ pastor encouraged him to consider ministering beyond one generation. That nudge led him into youth ministry, where he met Angela. They married in 2002.
While working as a mechanic and serving faithfully at church, Trevor couldn’t shake Steve Hill’s words. Eventually, he enrolled at North Central University to pursue pastoral ministry. After graduating, Trevor and Angela began ministry at Inner City Church in Minneapolis, then moved to Ellendale, MN, where Trevor became senior pastor of Ellendale Assembly of God.
The early years were difficult, but after two years of district supervised assistance, the church entered a season of healing and revival. Relationships were restored, a youth center was built, and the church was renamed Vibrant Life.
After six years, Trevor and Angela felt called into a new season.
They left Ellendale without jobs or housing and moved to Washington so Trevor could pursue further ministry training. The following years were marked by financial uncertainty, but God repeatedly provided, often just in time.
In 2016, Trevor accepted the call to pastor Detroit Lakes AG, in MN, drawn by its hunger and openness. After months of prayer, the church was renamed True Life, reflecting a fresh work of the Spirit and renewed hope for the community.
Today, True Life resources other rural churches with sermon series, graphics, and encouragement while allowing each to retain its local identity, reflecting their belief that generosity flows not from abundance but from obedience.
Most recently, Trevor and True Life have launched Emmaus Crossroads, a ministry focused on reaching young adults and youth. In 2024, it became painfully clear that mental health struggles and depression were present within their own youth group. Emmaus was born from that reality, a place centered on relationships, purpose, and trust, where young people can walk through their struggles and find hope. The vision continues to unfold as both the space and relationships are being built.
“We’ve seen God provide in the eleventh hour,” Trevor says. “That’s how we live and how we want to give. Even when it doesn’t make sense, we trust He will come through.”
Trevor and Angela remain committed to following God’s leading wherever it takes them. Their story is a reminder that when God calls, He also provides, always right on time.
